Andy and I spent the last two weeks touring around the North Island of New Zealand. It was such fun and we got to go to places we had never been before. One of those places was Coromandel.
Our road trip to Coromandel led to a fascinating visit to 'Copperworkx', a studio owned by skilled copper sculptor Karl Bishop and his wife Elaine.
You really need to watch the video for this one. Karl talks about his background in engineering and how he transformed this existing business with his unique flair. He shares his creative process and explains how his beautiful surroundings inspire him. His use of recycled copper to replicate native flora, birds, and sea life is a sight to behold.
One of his unique creations is a sculpture representing the Coromandel Peninsula in the form of a Māori weave.
The studio also houses copper jewellery, some crafted by artist Tatiana, guided by Karl's techniques.
To purchase his beautiful creations, visit their studio gallery at 41 Wharf Road ,Coromandel, New Zealand Or Visit their Online Shop http://www.copperworkx.co.nz.
Karl also does commission work, and you can contact him at info@copperworkx.co.nz.
