Home Made Laundry Powder

I have been using this laundry powder for about 6 months now and have been really surprised by the results from a homemade product.  It's easy to make, if your kids can use the food processor they can do it.

I have tried several different types of soap but the best ones are either made with pure vegetable oil or natural glycerine.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Borax
  • 1 cup Washing Soda
  • 2 small or 1 large bar of natural soap
  • 20 drops of essential oil - I use Bergamot as it's good for removing odours

There's been a bit of trial and error to get just the right mixing process and this is the one that I believe works best.

Grate the soap either in the food processor or get the kids to do it while they're watching TV.

Change the blade in the processor to your chopping blade (you may need to tip the soap out and then back in to do this).  Add the borax, washing soda and essential oil and process until the soap is chopped into the powder.

Pour it into jars and give them a nice label.  Use about 1 tablespoon for a large load of washing.  I don't use fabric softener (I don't like it) and, with this powder, I don't get static even when the washing goes in the dryer.
