Lockwood Renovation Part 8 - Tiny Master Bedroom Makeover

Do you remember what it looked like before?  Lots of dark wood and dark beams on the ceiling.

Dark and dreary

You won’t believe what it looks like now!

As master bedrooms go, this one is tiny – not medium sized, not even small, but tiny! It measures 4x3.25 meters for a grand total of approximately 12.5m2.

They say size doesn’t matter, it’s quality not quantity that counts, right?  Does that still ring true for house size?  After living in this tiny master bedroom for nearly three years, I’m willing to put my reputation on the line and say, when it comes to master bedrooms size really does matter.

Anyway, enough of that and onto the reveal.

Here we go…

Are you ready?

Much lighter and brighter

So, what did we do?

Kai Iwi is where I spent my summer holidays

We painted the walls!

White!

Well actually Resene’s one quarter rice cake.

Painting the walls of a Lockwood is not for the faint hearted, however it is very rewarding.  Soon I will be posting about exactly what you need to do and how you need to do it.

I made new curtains and a matching duvet cover.  I fell in love with this blue peacock fabric and it screamed blue and white bedroom to me.

Now you may be thinking, ‘why did she make a duvet cover out of that beautiful fabric but she’s only showing a little?’  That’s true, I am only showing a little because I layered the white quilt over the top. But, I like it! I used to have it with the duvet on the top, then I got bored with all the pattern and changed it up a bit.

I layered this blue paisley quilt on the end of the bed, and it’s really good to keep us cozy when it’s cold.

Next I added some pictures.

These pictures came from Karianne at Thistlewoodfarms.com (yes, I asked permission).  They worked perfectly with my colour scheme.

The unicorn painting above the bed is one of Jenna’s originals. You can check out her other work at https://www.jennakarl.com/.

I added some flowers – yep unashamedly these are fake! Hey, it’s winter alright!

I added some European pillows with tassels –you can never go wrong with a good tassel. Actually, these tassels were an after-thought but I do love them. Do you know how to make tassels?  Would you like a tutorial? Let me know in the comments below.

My sister bought me this vase for my birthday a few years ago.  I’ll let you into a little secret – it’s not actually a vase – it’s a jigsaw puzzle!  She had no idea I was designing a blue bedroom but, voila!  It matches perfectly.

So, that’s it.  We still have some things to do – you note I didn’t show you the other side of the room where there are no wardrobe doors.

We are also rewiring and insulating the ceilings in the entire house (another post) and so this ceiling will need to be lowered.

Let me know in the comments sections what you think. Would you like to snuggle up in this tiny master bedroom at the end of the day?

Well my friends, hope you are having an amazing day!
